God's Distractions

September 24, 2025

From Jeff Freeman

When the school year begins, there are times when students cry when they are on their way into the school. The tears don’t usually last long, maybe just a few minutes the first day and then less and less until there are only smiles and excitement to leave their parents and come into the school.

On occasion there can be a student that needs to be distracted. That distraction might be talking to them about the picture on the wall of the school or the fun that they had the day before. Whatever the distraction, it is helping them think about something else besides their tears.

This morning I was reminded in my quiet time how sometimes I need to be distracted. I get focused on my tears, pains, or a situation and a distraction can be helpful. I believe God gives me distractions through nature, like a bird hanging out at our bird feeder. Sometimes the distraction might be a phone call from a friend or family member. Sometimes the distraction might be someone with a greater need than mine at the time. Whatever God provides, it works!

So today, if I have a need to be distracted, I am praying that God will give me one of His distractions.

Do you need to be praying for God’s distractions, too?  What does He use to distract you?

Thank You, God for giving us Your distractions.
