From Pastor Eileen States
This Sabbath we pause as a community of believers to celebrate 70 years of God’s faithfulness to this Marietta Adventist Church family. Anniversaries like this are not only about looking back with gratitude but also about looking forward with hope. In the Bible, God’s people often paused to remember what He had done. They built altars, raised stones of remembrance, and established feasts so future generations would know the stories of God’s mighty acts.
Seventy years is a remarkable testimony. Think of the prayers prayed within these walls, the sermons preached, the children dedicated, the baptisms celebrated, the songs sung, the tears shed, and the lives transformed. Each story is a stone, stacked high into a monument that proclaims: “God has been faithful here.”
So we look back, not to live in the past, but to recall how God’s hand has guided us. As the prophet Samuel once said, “Thus far the LORD has helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12). May we never forget this!
Anniversaries also invite us to recommit. An anniversary renews our mission. Just as couples renew vows, we as a church recommit ourselves to loving God, serving our neighbors, and proclaiming the gospel. Do you know the vision and mission statement of our church?
Vision:
WE ARE: A community building relationships with God and each other by investing in the passions of young people, fostering involvement and being a positive influence in the local community.
Mission:
PASSIONATE FOR JESUS + LOVING TO ALL
As we remember we are also invited to hope. Seventy years ago, someone planted seeds of faith that we are now enjoying. Today, we plant seeds for the next seventy years, trusting that the same God will bless and sustain His work until He fulfills His promise to return and take us HOME to be with Him for all eternity.
As we celebrate this anniversary, let us ask ourselves how can I personally give thanks for what God has done in my life through this church? In what ways can I recommit my time, talents, and heart to God’s mission here? How will my faith today inspire the next generation of believers?
Anniversaries are not just about counting years, but about making years count. May this 70th anniversary be a testimony of God’s goodness behind us, His presence with us, and His promises before us.
“I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all Your works and consider all Your mighty deeds.”
Psalm 77:11–12
