From Joseph Wamack
An old man, a young boy and a donkey were walking along a dirt road, on their way to town. The boy was riding on the donkey while the old man walked. As they walked, some people they passed remarked "What a shame the old man has to walk while the young boy is riding."
The old man and the boy thought-maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions. Now the old man was on the donkey and the young boy walked, as they continued to town. Soon, they passed other people who remarked, "What a shame, that old man makes that little boy walk. That poor boy must be tired."
They looked at each other and decided they both should walk! Then they passed other people who remarked, "Those two are really foolish to walk when they have such a strong donkey they could both be riding."
So, they decided maybe those people were right and both climbed on the donkey. Soon, they passed some people who shamed them by saying, "How awful to put such a heavy, full load on that poor donkey." The boy and man figured those people were probably right, so they then decided to carry the donkey!
As they crossed a bridge-carrying the donkey-the old man and the boy lost their grip on the animal, and the donkey tumbled into the river and drowned.
Sometimes, we spend so much time listening to other people and their advice and/or opinions that in the end, nothing is done with purpose, nothing is accomplished and no one ends up happy (in this case-especially the donkey!)
Inside each person, is a “God shaped antenna” which can tune in and listen to the Spirit of God and choose to respond and make wise, thoughtful decisions. It is part of what it means to be made in the image of God-the ability to think and to do. If we listen to God, and are obedient to His calling, we will not be blown about by the winds of popular culture. What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right. When we listen to God and know who we are in Him-we can trust the choices we make and our future. If you want to get anywhere, it will be done with purpose!
So for us, MAC family, we look and listen to the calling God has given us as a church. A call to worship together, to grow as disciples of Jesus, to serve our community, to lift up and elevate our young people to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. We tune our “God shaped antenna” to listen to the Spirit. And our calling is unique to us. The "thumbprint" of MAC is unlike any other church. Thanks for being a part of this church family and for being obedient to your calling.
