From Pastor Joseph Wamack
A story is told about Albert Einstein, the great physicist who once was traveling by train from Princeton. The conductor was going up and down the aisle, punching the tickets of passengers. When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket. He couldn't find his ticket, so he reached in his trouser pockets. It wasn't there, so he looked in his briefcase but couldn't find it. Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn't find it.
The conductor said, "Dr. Einstein, I know who you are. I'm sure you bought a ticket. Don't worry about it." Einstein nodded appreciatively. The conductor continued down the aisle punching tickets. As he was ready to move to the next car, he turned and saw the great physicist down on his hands and knees looking under his seat for his ticket.
The conductor rushed back and said, "Dr. Einstein, Dr. Einstein, don't worry, I know who you are. No problem. You don't need a ticket. I'm sure you bought one."
Einstein looked at him and said, "Young man, I too, know who I am. What I don't know is where I'm going.”
So the obvious questions for you and me to ask ourselves are, “Do you know who you are and do you know where you are going?” None of us is perfect-far from it. In fact, it is our shortcomings that should make us aware of our need for God. As I get older, I realize I am still a “work in progress”. I am in the process of discovering who I am and how to best use the gifts and talents I have. But I can know where I am going because I have set goals for myself-personal goals, family goals, professional goals and goals for Eternity. It is not about perfection but direction.
I want my life to be so ordered that all I do is based on some goal I want to achieve and all of these goals are submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, in that I am His servant and am here to do anything that needs to be done to reveal Him to others. Time is too precious to waste on drifting aimlessly.
I believe that as I give myself to Him, He will order and direct my steps. My identity and future is secure because of Him. So I know who I am-a child of the King and I may not know what the immediate future holds but I know Who is holding that future, so I am okay with that. And this train is bound for glory!
