Remain in Me
April 13, 2023
From Jackie Payne
I’ll admit it. I haven’t done a great job at connecting with Jesus this week. The allure and distraction of screens and books and music has pulled my attention away at night. One snippet I did manage to hold onto this week is apropos:
Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5, NASB
I read this last night in my Bible before I went to bed, and look, it’s right there on the home page of the Bible app this morning. I had to chuckle. Book and screen are not connected, so apparently that is God’s doing. I love when He does things like this; it means He still sees me and loves me…and has to keep pulling me back in because I keep drifting away.
What is pulling you away today? It could be “bad” things or it could be seemingly benign things that cause your mind to wander during your personal worship or make you skip them altogether.
May we remain in Him today, always taking time to pray and read scripture, asking for the Holy Spirit to do things we can’t possibly do by ourselves. Stay connected, Friends.
