From Pastor Eileen States
My dad was an amazing gardener. I remember as a child being given a small plot of land just to plant what I wanted. My dad was right there to guide me on how to plant each seed perfectly in order to reap the best harvest. If you have planted seeds, you know what I mean - it has to be exactly the right distance between seeds and the right depth down into the soil.
When you read your Bible from Genesis to Revelation like we are doing this year as a church community, you see the theme of gardening over and over again. Here is a verse from the middle of your Bible. Psalm 1:3 says,
They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:3 (NLT)
Just like a gardener places seeds exactly where they will thrive, God has planted you. You are not where you are by accident. You have a purpose to learn, to grow, and to be a light.
We live in a world where people are constantly searching for purpose, asking questions like, “Why am I here?” or “What difference does my life make?” The Bible reminds us that we are not accidents. We are planted on purpose by a God who is intentional with every detail of our lives.
To be planted means to be placed with care. God has not only given us life, He has rooted us in His family, in this season, and in this church community for a reason. No matter our age or stage of life, God has a plan for us to grow, bear fruit, and glorify Him.
To the young children: God has planted seeds of joy, curiosity, and faith in you that will grow as you learn to love Him.
To the teens: God is shaping your identity and calling you to stand firm in Him, even as the world shifts around you.
To the adults: In the middle of life’s busyness and burdens, God is still watering your roots and calling you to bear fruit in your family, work, and witness.
To the seniors: You are not forgotten. You are like trees that still yield fruit in old age (Psalm 92:14) - strong, steady, and full of wisdom to pass on.
Wherever you are today, you are not just growing randomly, you are planted with purpose. God knows your soil, your season, and your story. And He promises to make you flourish when you're rooted in Him.
