Unexpected

In the spring there are pink flowers that bloom in an unusual place (at least to me). I see them each year all along the overpass at our exit on I-575. And each year they make me smile as I pass them because they aren’t where I expect them. They are one of the unexpected things that brighten my day.

What has brightened your day today? This week? Was it a text from a friend or a postcard in the mail? Good news about your job or a credit on an account? Good diagnosis from your doctor? Making a new friend? A piece of scripture that reminded you how much God loves you? Giggles from your kids? A hug? A nap? Flowers where you don’t expect to see them?

Take a moment right now and think about 5 things this week that have brightened your life. Now take a moment and thank God for providing these things – and – for making you aware of them. Life moves so fast that sometimes good things happen, and we just don’t see them. And in a world where things seem really dark and sad and scary, we must hold on to Jesus and the things we can be thankful for today.

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;

I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.
